Experience Accelerators
Developing better judgement through experience
Experience Accelerators creates practical learning experiences that help people develop operational judgement ,systems awareness and customer care.
Rather than simply teaching people what they need to know, Experience Accelerators puts them into realistic situations where they need to notice, question, decide, act and reflect.
The problem
Procedures are important. Experience helps people know when procedures are not enough.
Many logistics roles are learned through years of exposure to real situations.
People gradually learn what to notice, what questions to ask, which assumptions to challenge, when to escalate, and how one decision can affect the wider operation.
But that experience can be slow and accidental. Some situations may take months or years to encounter.
Experience Accelerators are designed to bring those learning opportunities forward.
What Experience Accelerators develop
Operational judgement
Recognising what matters, assessing the situation and making a sound decision when the answer is not obvious.
Systems awareness
Understanding how one action affects customers, suppliers, transport providers, customs, ports, warehouses and other parts of the logistics system.
Customer care
Looking beyond the transaction to understand what the situation means for the person relying on you and taking ownership of the outcome.
How it works
Learning by making decisions
Learners work through realistic logistics situations rather than simply being told the correct answer. They may need to:• Notice important information
• Ask further questions
• Test assumptions
• Consider different options
• Make a decision
• Experience the consequences
• Reconsider their approach
• Reflect on what they would do next timeThe aim is not to reproduce one expert answer. It is to build the thinking that supports good decisions.Experience Accelerators draws on established principles from experiential learning, simulation-based learning, deliberate practice and expert decision-making to create realistic opportunities for people to exercise and develop operational judgement.
Who is it for
Built around the realities of logistics work
Experience Accelerators can be developed for people working across the logistics system, including:Freight forwarding · Customs · Warehousing · Transport
· Ports·Shipping · Importing and exporting · Customer service · Team leadershipThey can support new entrants, developing operators and experienced staff moving into broader or more responsible roles.

Experience from industry and education
Mark O'Connor has worked across logistics, freight forwarding and tertiary logistics education. His teaching has included freight forwarding, customs, cargo management, dangerous goods, transport geography, industry communication and logistics systems.Experience Accelerators grew from one recurring question:
How can we help people develop the judgement that normally takes years of workplace experience to acquire?
Let's talk
Experience Accelerators are currently being developed in consultation with people working across logistics and workforce development. If you are interested in developing operational capability within your organisation, contributing industry experience, or exploring how simulation-based learning could be applied in logistics, I would be pleased to hear from you.
